English
"PlACEs!" stands for:
Play Acting for Children in English.
"Places!" is a drama/play-acting group for children of primary school age expressing a desire to explore situations and characters by means of playacting.
Drama promotes active learning
Studies show repeatedly that drama yields a greater depth of understanding as well as a marked improvement in retention. The drama student is not a passive recipient but rather and active participant and he/she engages at a much deeper and personal level than just being "given" the information.
The idea for Places!
The idea for a play acting group was the result of numerous requests from my children, both of whom love to perform before an audience.
The idea has developed somewhat since then....
We are currently in our third year and have had a lot of fun rehearsing and performing the musicals, James and the Giant Peach and Treasure Island. The mythology presentations have been both Greek and Norse mythology. Greek: Prometheus presenting man with the gift of fire, and Norse: Thor recovering his stolen hammer.
My intention is to continue to provide a venue where children have the confidence to express themselves in English, a place where they feel comfortable and can grow not only in confidence but in imagination and creativity too.
Annual concert for all students
Each Places student takes part in the annual concert. Performing before an audience is part of the drama learning experience and helps to build a positive, confident self image. Participation in the concert requires self control and discipline, both of which will serve the student well in all aspects of life.
Dates for the next musical production are:
Saturday, 9 April 2011 at 19:00
Sunday, 10 April 2011 at 15:00.
Tickets for A Job for Mr. Bunny
Tickets are not yet available, they are seat allocated as the hall is not conducive to queueing outside beforehand if the weather is miserable. Please reserve the 9 + 10 April for an entertaining evening which both you and your children will enjoy.
